You are about to begin your second trimester at 10 weeks pregnant which begins at twelve weeks. The embryo has grown considerably by this time and it is therefore important for you to take good care of yourself for the sake of the baby. The fetus is almost one and a half inches long and weighs about a fifth of an ounce.
It is amazing to note that the baby’s vital organs which are the lungs, heart, kidneys, intestines and brain would have been formed and are functioning by 10 weeks pregnant. There is going to be a very rapid growth of the fetus from this day onward. The first signs of finger nails and hair will begin to appear for the first time at 10 weeks pregnant. The baby’s fore head also looks very big at this stage although it will eventually become the normal size proportionate to that of the body.
At this small age of the baby, 10 weeks pregnant, it is important for the mother to eat a healthy well balanced diet accompanied with the necessary supplements and minerals. It is also good to consult with the doctor about the food that you should avoid that may not be good for the health of the baby. One of the common advices given to expectant women by health care providers is that they should avoid eating foods that generate heat in their bodies. Papaya and pine apple are examples of these kinds of food.
Constipation and bloating are other symptoms of 10 weeks of pregnancy. This is usually caused by the slowing down of the digestion process due to the increase of progesterone which is a hormone in the blood of the mother. Eating small quantities of food throughout the day rather than three huge meals thrice a day will help with this problem. Acidity and heart burn are also symptoms of a 10 week pregnant woman.
It is important for the expectant women to also keep themselves hydrated during this time by drinking at least eight glasses of water daily. Getting enough rest is also vital for the developing embryo and also for you. This is also not the time for you to participate in certain activities such as hockey, horse riding or skiing.
The pregnancy may be early and not even showing but some activities can increase your chances of trauma to your abdomen. Activities that will exert pressure on your mind as well physically should be avoided. At 10 weeks pregnant, luxuries such as having a sauna or steam bath should also be avoided because the high temperatures can cause birth defects.
This is also the time when you should be getting as much knowledge as possible about the symptoms you should be feeling at 10 weeks pregnant. For instance severe headaches and vomiting, swelling of the face, hands and legs can mean that something is not right.
