The baby is somewhere between two and two and a half inches in length at 12 weeks pregnant. The baby is having a nice time floating around inside in the amniotic fluid but you will not be able to notice this until later on in the pregnancy especially for the first time mothers.
You will notice dramatic changes taking place in your body at 12 weeks pregnant as the baby is growing at a very fast rate. This is the period you when are going to experience the last symptoms of the first trimester as you are heading into the second one.
The sex of the baby can be known at 12 weeks pregnant as their reproductive organs are formed. By the time you are entering the second trimester; the uterus will move out of the pelvic area and move just above the pubic bone. As the pregnancy moves up into the abdomen, you will gain weight and people will start noticing a small bump in your belly.
The baby weighs approximately one quarter to half an ounce at 12 weeks pregnant. Its synapses, muscles and nerves have started functioning and provide appropriate reactions. The nails of the baby begin to grow both on the toes and fingers and the baby can move them by opening and closing the palm and also moving the toes. You are also able to comprehend the facial characteristics that the baby has at this time.
The baby’s intestines are hanging just outside the umbilical cord and not inside the abdomen because it is growing at a very fast pace at 12 weeks pregnant. The baby now looks more and more human as the eyes have taken their position on the face and the eyelids can move. The nervous system and muscles are more developed so that the baby can react to the movements that you make.
Another very common symptom for the 12 weeks pregnant mother is heartburn. This is usually caused by the growing baby in the uterus that puts pressure on the stomach. This combined with the changing level of hormones in the body during pregnancy causes digestion to slow down.
Heart burn is common during pregnancy and can be dealt with by taking prescription medication from a physician. Other measures that you can take are avoiding spicy foods and eating large meals. Eat bits of food throughout the day to make digestion easier. However, the most common symptoms of 12 weeks pregnant in the mothers-to-be are heart burn, morning sickness and nausea and vomiting.
This is also the time to plan how you are going to maintain and promote your health throughout the pregnancy by doing exercises and eating a well balanced diet. This will help to keep off the extra weight gain but it is also good for the health. The mother will require vitamins, minerals and nutrients for the healthy growth of the baby. Supplements can also help to suppress food cravings.
