You are beginning your second trimester meaning you are now out of the highest risk. The first trimester is usually risky for pregnancy and so making it through is an accomplishment. Most of what you are going to experience from now is pain or an ache somewhere. This will not necessarily mean trouble as it did in the first trimester. At 13 weeks pregnant, the morning sickness you are used to will subside a lot and you will begin to feel a lot better in the mornings.
The size of your belly at 13 weeks pregnant is not big enough to start wearing maternity clothes. The level of estrogen in your body will shoot up causing your boobs to grow plumper so as to prepare to start lactating. You will also have an increased appetite as this is another symptom of being 13 weeks pregnant.
You will also begin to notice stretch marks on your body especially on the buttocks, stomach and hips. These are caused by the stretching of the ligaments as you gain your baby weight. This is a nuisance that women hate about pregnancy but you can use lotions with vitamins E to prevent them from getting bigger. When you control your eating so that you gain weight slowly, you can also avoid many stretch marks.
The baby’s size has increased to three inches and weighs twenty grams at 13 weeks pregnant. The baby’s head at this time looks proportionately bigger than the rest of the body. However, this will change as the baby is growing. The head will not become smaller, but more proportional since the body will catch up with the size of the head.
Another development at 13 weeks pregnant is the baby develops its unique finger prints. The baby swallows the amniotic fluid which will be removed from the baby’s system by the kidneys that have started working. The internal organs such as the small intestines will start functioning at 13 weeks pregnant and the pancreas will start producing insulin in order to maintain the sugar level of the baby.
At 13 weeks pregnant the mother develops an interest in love making which is something that is typically put off during pregnancy. It is safe to do this as long as you have not had vaginal bleeding or had a miscarriage before. You may also have a whitish milk-like discharge from the vagina at 13 weeks pregnant. The bones of the baby at 13 weeks pregnant are beginning to harden.
The baby’s intestines are located in their positions as well as the sockets of the teeth on the gums at 13 weeks pregnant. The vocal cord of the baby is also developed but it is unable to make any sounds because it is in the amniotic fluid. Your bathroom trips will increase as the baby grows and pushes on the bladder. At 13 weeks pregnant the mother will also have more energy unlike before so that you will not need to rest as much during the day like before.
