14 Weeks Pregnant What to Expect

When you are 14 weeks pregnant this is your first week in the second trimester. The length of the baby at 14 weeks pregnant is three and a half inches from the head to the rump; and they are about one and a half ounces in weight. Its growth is rapid and will be twice this size by nineteen weeks pregnant. The baby’s head at 14 weeks pregnant is still bigger than the rest of his body and is actually half the total height of the baby, but the rest of its body will soon catch up.

The baby’s ears, nose and eyes are making their last moves to position themselves on the face along with the growing eye brows. The size of the head hides the neck of the baby but will start to elongate at 14 weeks pregnant. The chin that is close to the chest will start to separate and rise up. During the earlier stages of pregnancy the baby usually gets nutrients from the yolk sac, but at 14 weeks pregnant, the placenta takes over this role so that the baby depends on it one hundred percent.

Another amazing development at 14 weeks pregnant for the baby is its ability to excrete from the bladder. The baby usually swallows the amniotic fluid which then needs to be excreted. After about thirty minutes the baby empties its bladder and the urine passes through the placenta for excretion by the mother.

You can ease this problem by wearing low heeled shoes, avoid lifting heavy objects as much as possible, sleep on a firmer mattress and if you have to stand for a long time lift one leg on top of a box or put it in an elevated position.

This hormone usually slows down the digestive process resulting in gas and as well as bloating.
